News from the Parish Priest

Sunday 29th March Re-dedication of England as Our Lady’s Dowry

Notice from Cardinal Vincent Nichols:

In response to the Coronavirus pandemic, so many aspects of our lives must change. This includes the ways in which we publicly express our faith. It is very clear that, following official advice and in order to keep each other safe, save lives and support the NHS, at this time we must not gather for public acts of worship in our churches. This will begin from Friday evening, 20th March 2020, until further notice. Because of the situation the Church finds herself in, the obligation for the faithful to attend Holy Mass on a Sunday or Holy day of Obligation is removed, until further notice.

Some information from our Bishop:

I have also created a YouTube channel, so that during this time Mass and other devotions will be live-streamed from the chapel at Bishop’s House. This can be found by searching for ‘Bishop Patrick McKinney’ on YouTube and it will also be linked to my Facebook and Twitter accounts. I will be streaming Sunday Mass at 10am this coming Sunday, 22nd  March and each Sunday during this period. Other devotions will be advertised on my social media channels.

What can we do as a parish?

1.Let us continue to pray especially the rosary, the Divine Mercy Chaplet and the prayer to St. Michael. We can join in with masses on the internet or that is not available to us, we can still join ourselves to the mass.

2.Let us be aware of our neighbour. They may need shopping, a practical job done or simply to hear a friendly voice.  Look out for one another.

3.It is clear that the elderly and those with underlying health problems are at risk. We should all follow the general advice given but those people  in particular: Avoid non-essential travel; avoid large gatherings; avoid anyone who is displaying symptoms; wash our hands regularly; keep our social distance (approx. 6 feet)

4.Build up a rhythm to our lives; rejoice in the rest we are being given; use the opportunity to pray more.

MAKING A SPIRITUAL COMMUNION

During these times when we are unable to go to mass or receive communion it is very important that we still join ourselves to the sacrifice of the mass and make a spiritual communion; that means we have a burning desire to receive Jesus in Holy Communion but whilst being unable to do this in the sacrament, we receive him in our hearts as if he was coming to us in Holy Communion. This is an extremely valuable and holy practice and gains us many graces.

Welcome

WISHING YOU ALL A HAPPY FEASTDAY FOR THE ASCENSION AND THE START OF OUR NOVENA TO THE HOLY SPIRIT IN PREPARATION FOR THE GREAT FEAST OF PENTECOST. FOR NOVENA SUGGESTIONS SEE THE BULLETIN 6TH WEEK OF EASTER

Bulletin, Letters and Message from Archbishops of England and Wales below.

THERE ARE MASSES AVAILABLE VIA LIVE STREAMING IN ENGLAND;E.G.: NOTTINGHAM CATHEDRAL AND WALSINGHAM. GO TO WWW.CHURCHSERVICES.TV TO ACCESS.

MOST IMPORTANTLY, ENTRUST YOURSELF TO MARY, PRAY THE ROSARY AND THE DIVINE MERCY CHAPLET. REMEMBER WE ARE PREPARING TO DEDICATE OUR COUNTRY TO MARY. SHE WILL LOOK AFTER US. BE AT PEACE.

EWTN IS AN EXCELLENT SERVICE.

People are not bound to the Easter duties. Confessions are not being heard except in urgent necessity (please do contact the priest if you need it urgently). Meanwhile simply make a perfect act of contrition by telling God you are sorry for your sins because they have offended his goodness.
